850 Payments + Stripe

Stripe Payments for Contractors

850 Payments connects contractor invoices and payment requests to Stripe-hosted checkout while Stripe handles merchant verification, sensitive card entry, payment processing, and payouts. 850 Work keeps the invoice, customer, job, status, fees, and non-sensitive provider references connected for the business.

What Stripe handles and what 850 Work handles

  1. Merchant onboarding: Stripe collects the identity, tax, bank, and business information it requires for the connected merchant account.
  2. Invoice context: 850 Work creates the branded invoice, payment order, customer reference, and secure customer-facing request.
  3. Sensitive payment entry: Stripe-hosted checkout collects the customer's card details; 850 Work does not store raw card numbers or CVV values.
  4. Processing and payout: Stripe processes the payment and sends the connected merchant's payout according to its account and payout schedule.
  5. Status and reconciliation: 850 Work verifies signed Stripe events, matches the merchant, currency, amount, and order, then updates the linked payment and invoice records.

Ways a service business can collect

Invoice email

Attach the exact invoice PDF and include its linked payment path in the same customer message.

In-person request

Create a payment request while the technician is with the customer, without pretending every request is an emailed invoice.

Standalone link

Choose an active client or use a recipient name and email when the payment is not tied to an existing invoice.

Monthly contract

For signed service agreements, the customer reviews and approves the recurring amount before billing begins on Stripe.

Refund and dispute records

Provider events can keep the payment history current when a payment is refunded, fails, or enters a dispute state.

Payment reports

Review transaction amounts, status, applicable fees, and links back to the original business records.

Stripe processing and the 850 Work platform fee

The connected business pays Stripe's applicable processing charges plus a disclosed 0.5% 850 Work platform fee for payments processed through 850 Payments. The $10/month 850 Work subscription is separate. Stripe deducts supported fees from the connected merchant payout; 850 Work does not hold the customer's funds.

850 Work is not trying to become the card processor

850 Payments is the branded payment experience inside 850 Work, while Stripe remains the regulated payment provider. Sensitive provider credentials stay server-side, raw card data is not stored by 850 Work, and signed webhook events are verified before a payment closes the connected invoice.
